In order to receive a high school diploma in Georgia, a student must complete the required number of units and pass the mandated Georgia State Board of Education tests. Students who attend Mountain Education Center High School arrive at different levels in their education; therefore, different sets of requirements apply. Students who have been withdrawn from a public school for more than 12 months must meet the graduation requirements for the graduating class in which they re-enroll. Out-of-school students may elect to receive a Mountain Education Center High School diploma or a diploma from one of the MECHS collaborative high schools. Students electing to receive a MECHS diploma shall meet the graduation requirements outlined below. Students electing to receive a collaborative school diploma must complete the graduation requirements of that school (this may be more Carnegie units than are required by MECHS).

Out-of-school students who choose to receive a MECHS diploma are allowed to graduate at any time during the year once the requirements for graduation are completed. In the spring of each year, MECHS conducts a graduation ceremony for all students who have completed requirements during that school year. This is a very meaningful ceremony for students and their families, and all students are encouraged to participate.
